How to Take An Effective Mental Health Day
Shut Everything Down
Ring…”Hello. Oh really? No, I can’t help you with that today. My therapist told me to shut everything down. I don’t even know why I answered this phone. Bye”. LOL! All jokes aside, you really have to be intentional about creating a time and space for yourself. Please keep in mind you don’t have to answer your phone just because it rings.
Taking an effective mental health day starts with planning. Make arrangements with family and or friends if needed. Many of us tend to feel like we’re being a burden if we ask others for help. It’s actually a strength. Knowing when and how to advocate for your needs is necessary.
Figure out what would help you make yourself happy and do it. Next, really be in the moment and maximize your time. Taking a break doesn’t always mean leaving home, it can simply mean changing your environment. Get creative with decor, change your bedding, take a relaxing bath, eat your favorite meal or just rest. If all else fails, close your eyes and click your heals together three times. Tell me how it turns out.
